City Logistics in Norra Djurgårdsstaden, Stockholm
The project led to the introduction of market solutions (processes, business models and technology/ IT) that make freight transport in urban environments more efficient. City Logistics was a demonstration project in Stockholm’s Norra Djurgårdensstad (NDS), where advanced IT solutions supporting logistics and business models led to less congestion and better use of resources.
In the Stockholm Royal Seaport a construction logistics center has been implemented and the project has concluded that more than 50 percent of construction transport could be subject to joint delivery. A demonstration of joint collection of wastes were also carried out with an energy reduction of 75 percent. Key figures for deliveries of goods and collection of waste has been calculated, by an inventory for two weeks as well as from databases.
The project shows considerable potential to reduce both the amount of transport, energy use and emissions. It also shows the need for an active role of the municipality in both the planning phase and in the long term.
