– sustainable commuting in Stockholm and Gothenburg
Light electric vehicles have a variety of benefits; potential emission reductions, reduced commuter traffic and energy consumption. If 10% of all trips over 15 km in the Stockholm area were made using light electric vehicles, the reduction of congestion and emissions would be the equivalent to the entire effect of congestion charges or 30 000 tonnes of CO2.
Light electric vehicles are very suitable for commuting; current electric bicycles permit commuting of up to 15 km, while some light electric vehicles have ranges up to 140 km. Of course, noise-free electric vehicles and electric bicycles contribute to better health and a longer life.
Converting car commuters in Stockholm and Gothenburg to electric bike commuters is a fair challenge. The target group is commuters with routes that can be replaced by electric bikes or electric scooters. The goal is 1000 el-bike commuters and 100 el-moped and el-scooters commuters. An extension of this project is to install and evaluate parking and recharging facilities for these vehicles in both new and existing housing associations.
